Eco Bronze Award for St Benedict's Junior School

St Benedict's Junior School has achieved the Bronze Award for the Eco Schools initiative. This is the culmination of many months of work by Eco Co-ordinators Katie Larsen and Matilda Farmer, together with the Junior School Eco Council, which comprises pupil representatives from Reception to Year 6.
On Thursday 3rd May the whole School celebrated this achievement during Environment Day. There were separate workshops for Pre-Preps and Juniors and a poster competition, which focussed on some of the things children could do to create a better environment, such as: turning off the lights, TV and water around the house so as not to waste energy and precious resources, recycling rubbish to avoid using landfill sites, getting active and not using the car to reduce pollution, being aware of what's around you to help conserve the habitats of animals and plants.
The Eco Council has done sterling work in building a whole school awareness of environmental issues. Earlier, Fairtrade Day had provided an excellent platform for the newly formed Council to publicly launch its programme and many children took part in the 'Walk to School' campaign. All year groups also prepared designs for the 'Blooming Great Britain' Eco Card Project.
The Eco Council and Co-ordinators are delighted with the way both pupils and staff have embraced environmental issues and the School's next target is to gain Green Flag status.
