St Swithun's School celebrates three top class musicians

St Swithuns School is celebrating the achievement of three of the Schools top musicians as they realise outstanding success in gaining music Diplomas.

Last years Upper Sixth student Jo Ayre has achieved her piano Diploma and current Upper Sixth students Akie Onodera and Sienna Carver have achieved their piano and oboe Diplomas respectively. All girls passed the high level exam earlier this year having spent a year or more preparing for their success.

The Diploma consists of three sections: playing a recital for 35 minutes, which includes contrasting pieces from different periods of the girls own choosing, an arrangement and an interview. The qualification achieved is the equivalent of the first year of study at a Music Conservatoire.

All girls, who have been playing from an early age, achieved Grade 8 in their associated instrument whilst at St Swithuns. Jo Ayre, who was taught since the age of eight at St Swithuns Junior School by, she says the most amazing teacher Caroline Silvester, is now heading to Durham University to study modern languages. All three girls will now have the letters DipABRSM after their names.
