St Swithun's pupil gains place in National Youth Orchestra

Rachel Carver, a current Year 9 pupil at St Swithun's School, Winchester, has recently been awarded a prestigious place as a harpist in the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain.

Mr Richard Brett, Director of Music at the School, outlined the significance of such an achievement by saying 'With an instrument such as the harp the competition for a place is particularly intense because an orchestra only has two harpists at most'.

Rachel will now attend regular courses with the National Youth Orchestra during school holidays and also perform across the country, including participation in the Proms at the Royal Albert Hall next summer.
