We are pleased with our Upper Sixth pupils performance in A level examinations this summer: the A*-C grade pass-rate was at 96% for the second year runningthe Schools best-ever tally at these grades. This year was the third in which exam boards awarded the highly prestigious A* grade to candidates who scored over 90% in their final-year units, and Merchiston is pleased to report a 21% A* grade performance this summer.

Merchiston is delighted with its 2012 leavers success in applications for Higher Education courses. Of our 69 applicants who gained offers, 62% gained grades which enabled them to take up offers at their first choice of university course and 84% of applicants secured their offers from either their first or second choice courses.

Twenty-four universities form the Russell Group of selective universities: 55% of Merchistons successful applicants this year took up places at Russell Group universities.

Additionally, four Merchiston pupils have secured places at Cambridge University for next academic year to read Engineering and Natural Sciences.
There was once again a buzz of excitement at School as Fifth Form pupils learned their GCSE examination results.
There were many happy faces: Merchistons GCSE pass rate A*-C this year was 97%. Moreover, of the 570 individual candidate results 370 (65%) gained grades A*/A; the Schools combined A*, A, and B grade pass rate was a highly gratifying 91%: this is Merchiston's best ever set of GCSE results at these three top grades.

Andrew Hunter, Headmaster comments, This is always a very important part of the academic year. For some boys, it is the culmination of a 10 year journey at Merchiston. Others have had shorter journeys. I am delighted with the quality of the A level results. They speak volumes for the staff and how the boys are inspired to aspire to do the best they can possibly do. The combination of the natural brightness of many of these boys, their own hard work, and the attention, care and professionalism from staff has resulted in another set of superb results.
