SCOTLAND AND TEAM GBS LEADING MARATHON RUNNER DELAYS HONEYMOON TO VISIT MERCHISTON CASTLE SCHOOL AHEAD OF BUPA GREAT EDINBURGH RUN

Only one week after getting married Scotland and Team GBs leading Marathon runner Freya Murray will visit Merchiston Castle School tomorrow to give some tips and advice to a group of pupils ahead of this Sundays Bupa Great Edinburgh Run.

Over 8,000 runners of all abilities are set to take to the streets of Scotlands historic capital city for a great day of running including the traditional Bupa Great Edinburgh Run 10k, Bupa Great Edinburgh Run 5k and the Bupa Junior and Mini Great Edinburgh Run.

Freya is in Edinburgh prior to competing for Scotland East in the Scottish Inter district 10K Road Championships at this Sundays 10kilmetre Bupa Great Edinburgh Run. She will answer questions from the 47 pupils taking part in the event and will pass on some advice about preparing for a big event.

Freya said: Its great to see so many young people taking part in the Bupa Junior and Mini Great Edinburgh Run. Im delighted to be returning to my home town to compete and I cant wait to get out there. Im aiming to give it my all and give what is always a fantastic home crowd, their first local winner of the Bupa Great Edinburgh Run.

Niamh Waldron, Head of Juniors at Merchiston Castle School said: Its really inspiring to have an Olympic athlete visit the school to help the boys prepare for their run. We, as a school love being part of this event and always have a large group take part in the Bupa Junior Great Edinburgh Run. Its a great day out, fantastic atmosphere and a good way to raise money for charity.

Freya will be joined by Scotlands leading Marathon runner Andrew Lemonchello, who is flying home to Scotland from Flagstaff, Arizona to compete in the popular 10k event.

Thousands of runners are raising money for many worthwhile causes such as Edinburgh Sick Kids Hospital, Diabetes UK, Cancer Research UK and Capital FMs nominated charity Help a Capital Child led by breakfast DJ Des Clarke.

Merchiston pupils are running for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, a charity the School has previously supported at the run. Well-known faces also taking part in the event for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research are John Michie who is currently playing Karl Monro in Coronation Street and Chris Chittell who plays Eric Pollard in Emmerdale.

Taking part in the Business Challenge is Michelin Star Chef Tom Kitchin and his team from The Kitchin, Tom is also the honorary starter of the Bupa Great Edinburgh Run.
