Year 10 Computing GCSE pupils at LVS Ascot won the school £500 for computing equipment by creating a new mobile device using Microsoft .NET Gadgeteer. The winning competition entry by Alex Langedijk, 15 from Warfield and Mathias Munk, 15 from Ascot, involved both the building and programming of a 'football goalie game' device.

ICT teacher Mr Franklin said that 'The quality of code and programming structures were something that normally you would expect to see from A-level or first year degree students. Using such advanced hardware clearly motivated them and I am very pleased that they could receive recognition for their hard work.'

Dr Sentance from Anglia University visited the school on 2nd October to present the cheque to the winners along with some goody bags.

With computing in schools recently receiving high attention from both Michael Gove, Education Secretary and Eric Shmidt, CEO Google, LVS Ascot is making sure that it is at the forefront of this exciting subject and teaching it with the most up to date hardware and software available.

The prize money will be spent on purchasing further equipment to inspire the next generation of computer programmers and digital entrepreneurs.

LVS Ascot was amongst the first wave of schools to offer GCSE Computing in the pilot programme that began two years ago and are very pleased with the results that pupils gained this August. It was also the first school in the country to introduce the building and programming of Gadgeteer devices within the GCSE syllabus.

LVS Ascot also offer A-level Computing and were very pleased this year when Bradley Pollard, one of their students, obtained an A* in the subject and will continue to study Computing at Imperial College.
