Lord Lieutenant's Cadet

An U6th form student at Lord Wandsworth College, George Harker Smith from Yateley joined the Army Section of the Lord Wandsworth Combined Cadet Force in September 2008. An articulate, confident cadet with a ready smile, he was quickly seen as having real potential for promotion and seniority; he is clearly achieving this and after early promotion to junior rank has recently been promoted to Sergeant while still in his Lower 6th Form year.

In 2008, he went on his first Adventure Training Camp to the Lakes and Peak Districts, where he was faced with a wide range of challenging outdoor activities. He relished them and came back for more at Advanced Adventure Training Camp, held each year in Snowdonia and in winter. Again, he demonstrated a cheerful and resilient approach in the face of intimidating weather conditions. The Cadet Leadership Course at Frimley Park was a natural progression and he completed this with significant success in the summer of 2009.

George has always been drawn towards a career in the Royal Navy and so to develop his Service knowledge, he went on an acquaint visit to Royal Naval Base, Faslane in December 2009. There he had access to Bridge and Submarine simulators and enjoyed a sea day on a Minesweeper. This did nothing but enhance his enthusiasm and commitment and he was subsequently accepted onto a Sea Warfare Course in the summer of 2010.

George has recently become a College Prefect as well as Head of his Boarding House where he deals with all his contemporaries with a natural consideration and warmth.

Delightful company, a sound thinker and planner, a diplomat of absolute integrity, he has a highly developed sense of responsibility, courtesy and service. George will be attentive to the needs of the Lord Lieutenant and serve her with unswerving loyalty.
