A truly African experience!

Having made the twelve hour overnight flight to Cape Town, the group of eleven Kingshott children were ready to hit the ground running and Cape Town was not a bad place to kick off their South African Exchange trip. With blue skies overhead, breath-taking scenery and too many excursions to fit into the time available, they rushed around this beautiful city taking a cable car trip up Table Mountain and a ferry trip to Robben Island. Dinner and shopping at the Waterfront followed forty-five minutes of bartering for curios. One of the highlights of every exchange is a visit to the sprawling informal settlement of Khayelitcha, home to over two million people. Seeing shanties made of corrugated iron, dusty roads and children playing football in the street showed the other side of life and made the children grateful for what they sometimes take for granted. Swims in the Indian and very cold Atlantic Oceans, a braai and 'biltong' all set the children up for their trip to Port Elizabeth where they spent the next two weeks going to school and living with their host families. A wonderful and truly African experience.
