They did it! A team of five students from Sherborne Girls in Dorset have battled their way to the top to win Ahead of the Game, a national Young Apprentice-style competition to find the young entrepreneurial stars of the future. The Year 10 girls beat off competition from 140 schools including Manchester High School for Girls and St Catherines, Bramley and impressed the judges with their winning business plan for PictureIT, a company that provides photographic tours of Sherborne and training in digital and social media for the older generation.

The final of the competition, which took place this week at Blackberry's headquarters in Slough, was presided over by a panel of four judges, consisting of top executives from the company. The winning team was awarded with £150 for each student.

Louise Robinson, President of the Girls' Schools Association (GSA), organisers of the competition, said:
'We wanted to inspire girls to think like entrepreneurs and we've seen some excellent and highly innovative examples. The team from Sherborne Girls executed their business plan brilliantly.'
16-year-old student Alicia Baines said, 'We are so excited to have won. Making our way up through the three different stages of the contest has been a real challenge, not least because we have had to juggle it with our studies, but we are really glad that all the hard work has finally paid off.'

Headmistress Jenny Dwyer added: 'A big congratulations to all five girls for seeing their brilliant business plan through to its conclusion against some stiff competition. The girls have gained valuable enterprise skills in the process, which should stand them in good stead in the future world of work.'
