Carved in Stone

Upper Sixth Form Art students enjoyed a day of stone carving with acclaimed fine art sculptor, Nicolas Moreton, on Thursday 11 October. Nicolas, who has been described as 'a modern master in the medium of stone carving', spent the day with the boys sharing his experience and skills as they worked to create their very own sculptures.Nicolas told us 'Despite the inclement weather the boys in the workshop showed great appreciation and enthusiasm towards carving, and through taking part immediately gained a deeper knowledge and respect for this medium. The workshop itself seems to have created a buzz about the department with other boys wanting to see if they can have the opportunity to carve, which I am sure will be possible with the support of such forward thinking staff.'
The internationally recognised sculptor also spoke of his work, displayed both in the UK and overseas, in a fascinating talk to boys and staff.
