Fabulous Fairy Tales - 28/11/12

Published Wednesday 19th of December 2012 11:01:51 AM

Princesses, Princes, Wizards, Goblins and Dragons were just some of the characters to be found in the imaginative fairy tales written by pupils in Year 4 for the children in the Reception Class at Gayhurst.

From tales of quests for treasure to traditional themes of finding Prince Charming and the happy ever after ending, the pupils' stories had all the necessary ingredients to captivate a willing audience of Reception children when they read to them during an afternoon session.

Inspiration for the stories came from the preparations for the Year 4 production of 'Cinderella'. With this in mind, the children were set a creative writing task in their English lessons to produce their very own fairy tales.

Director of Studies, Mr Whitaker said, 'This project is a fantastic example of how cross-curricular work, such as English and Drama, can be of real benefit to the pupils here at Gayhurst. By thinking about the story of 'Cinderella' as a starting point Year 4 have come up with some wonderful stories of their own and it was a delight for the m to be able to share their work with children lower down the school.'
