'First in Class' for Catering Team at Bishop's Stortford College

Published on isbi School News dated Wednesday 2nd of January 2013

The Catering Team at Bishop's Stortford College became the first School in East Anglia and South East England to retain their GOLD CAP Award. The independent assessor from the 'Continuous Advancement Programme' (www.capaward.co.uk) arrived for the un-announced assessment visit in late November. The Catering Team took the visit in their stride and continued with 'business as normal'. In early December, the Award was confirmed much to the delight of the Catering Manager Gary Law and his team.

With only 15% of participants in the CAP Award Programme achieving GOLD, this achievement by the Catering Department is fanastic news and recognition of the high standard they deliver.

For the Gold Award, the visit must be un-announced. The College nominated the Autumn Term for the visit and the Catering Team then watched and waited for the 'inspector to call'. Whilst being quietly confident in their skills and approach and that they had continued to develop their service since last year, it is the verdict following the inspection that counted.

The CAP Award Assessor who inspects schools, hospitals and hotels across the UK was impressed with the quality of service at the Hertfordshire-based independent day and boarding school for children aged 4 to 18 years. The Catering Team were commended in particular for the care shown in their dealings with the pupils in the dining hall and for the variety of food on offer. The Assessor took feedback from the pupils, inspected the kitchens and tasted a wide selection of the menu offer at both lunch and supper. With the 2012 Award complementing the 2011 Award, 'first in class' would seem a fitting tribute to all.
