Henry Knight’s third year as Headmaster has been one of exciting growth and development as he, along with his wife Susannah and their three young children, have maintained the strong family ethos for which Woodcote has become so well known. With a settled and committed staff, most of whom live on site with their own families, Woodcote provides an exceptionally caring and supportive environment for both Boarders and Day Boys. The school is in a rural location, whilst being easily accessible from London. Heathrow Airport is 30 minutes by car and Gatwick 45 minutes.
Entrance is by interview and a non-competitive test. There is an annual Scholarship Day in March with awards and bursaries of up to 50% of annual fees available. With an average class size of 10, boys are, of course, treated as individuals with strong emphasis on academic achievement. The younger forms are taught in their own wing; the older forms are streamed. Scholarships to senior schools are won regularly, and there is also extra help available for those who encounter difficulties.
Acting, art and music are considered very important, as are public speaking, good manners and fun. Rugby, football, cricket and hockey are coached to a high standard and there are teams at all levels of age and ability, with a high success rate for a small school. Other sports include tennis (the school has five courts), swimming, athletics, golf, judo, polo, squash, trampolining and rifle-shooting. Woodcote also has a Warhammer Dungeon!
