The Ivy Opens to Sixth Form Students

Published on isbi School News dated Monday 21st of January 2013

January saw the opening of the brand new addition to The Wortley Sixth Form centre, The Ivy Café opened its doors to a very excited group of Year 12 and Year 13 students all eager to try out their new space. After the official opening courtesy of William Moon, Head of School, students happily tucked into a spread of pizza and sandwiches and settled into their new home.

The Café has been named The Ivy as it is a very important plant to Trent and its history. Not only are both The Wortley and our Main School building covered in the climbing plant, it also helped save the lives of a group of Trent boys in 1922. The Main School building caught fire, and the boys from Shuker House escaped the blaze by climbing down the ivy to safety.

The development is intended as a relaxation space for our oldest students away from the hustle and bustle of main school life. Sixth Formers will have the option to purchase drinks and snacks as well as selection of hot and cold food at break and lunch times.

We hope that all of our current and future Sixth Formers enjoy their new space for socialising, re-energising and when they need some time away from the pressures of study.
Thank you to everyone involved in creating this lovely space.
