For the Love of Literature

Published on isbi School News dated Tuesday 19th of February 2013

What a wonderful week of words to warm the heart during a cold, wintry February!

The 2013 Bishop's Stortford College Festival of Literature was an inspirational feast of stories, pictures and poetry, with thirteen authors, twenty-eight events, two competitions and the Short Story Award and Picture Book Award presentations, all packed into one week.

There was something for everyone during the seven-day word and picture fest, with a diverse range of speakers, including BBC TV newsreader George Alagiah, science broadcaster Adam Hart-Davis, poet Brian Patten, master of all literary trades Christopher Lloyd, storytellers Atinuke and Debs Newbold, best-selling debut novelist Rachel Joyce and Olympic gold motivator Ben Hunt-Davis, among other writers and illustrators.

Festival organiser and Junior School librarian Rosie Pike said: 'We were thrilled to see the love of literature being celebrated and shared in so many ways, by so many people, throughout the week. Now in its fourth year, the Bishop's Stortford College Festival of Literature is designed to inspire and foster a passion for reading, in young and old alike, and from the excitement, buzz and book signing queues during the week, this was certainly achieved!'
