St Benedict's Junior School went all out this year for Fairtrade Fortnight with a number of different activities taking place. The fortnight kicked off with a Fairtrade 'Pudding Competition'. Children had to come up with a recipe for a dessert that contained Fairtrade products. The dessert was then cooked by the catering team and served during lunch. Congratulations to seven year old Luke Ainslie (Year 3) - his winning recipe was for banana cake and syrup. There was also a 'Silver Trail' challenge in which pupils brought in silver coins to make a trail laid out in the playground. Year 4 Form M won the prize for the longest line.Eco Co-ordinators, Mrs Matilda Logsdon and Ms Becky Machin said: 'Another successful event was our Fairtrade Cake Sale of homemade and Fairtrade cakes, run by the School Eco Council, which went down a storm, raising over £300. Finally, in our 'Decorate Your Door' Competition, each Form decorated their classroom door to promote Fairtrade fortnight. The winners were Mrs Rutherford's class Year 5 Form M. Overall we raised more than £600 for our Lenten charities so a huge 'Thank you' to everyone for your support!'
