A dazzling spectacle

The third St Benedict's School Dance Show, with a cast of over seventy girls, was a dazzling spectacle of colour, movement and sound. Choreographer Ruth Kestenbaum superbly rose to the challenge of directing such a varied cast, with girls from Year 3 right through to Year 12, and squeezed the maximum performance from every individual. The show was ably and humorously compered by Jonathan Cheriyan (Year 13) and Francis Curran (Year 10).
Among the highlights of the show was the second act 'Circus', performed by the older girls with hoops and streamers and including a superb solo performance from Zoe Rutherford (Year 6). The number ended with a spectacular human statue. Alessandra Messa (Year 9) was mesmerising in her Ballet Solo, showing incredible poise and balance. A Michael Jackson Medley, performed by the youngest and oldest girls, rounded off the first part of the show in style, with a funny ending.
After the interval, the audience were shaken up with an energetic street dance performance of 'Freak' by the Year 10 girls, with a guest appearance by Eddie Bannister (Year 7) 'a very lucky boy' as our comperes put it! Superb athletic skills were demonstrated in 'Devastating Stereo' while the graceful rhythm and movement of 'Shelter' captivated the audience. Too soon it was the finale. With the audience clapping in rhythm, the whole cast came on, in turn, to a medley of Abba songs, finally combining in a Gangnam Style version of 'Dancing Queen'. It was a super show and hugely enjoyable.
