Jonny sets Sail

JONNY Wilson took part in the Rya Eric Twiname Championships at Rutland Water

It is one of the largest sailing events in the calendar for regional teams in Optimists, Cadets, Toppers, RS Fevas and Windsurfers.

Jonny is a member of the RYA South West Topper Squad and the Topper fleet consisted of 87 boats from the nine regional squads.

On Saturday despite strong gusts and driving rain, Jonny put in a consistent performance with a 6th, 7th and 7th place giving him overall 10th position at the end of the first day. Sunday brought a more steady 12-14 knots and spells of sunshine and a 25th, 2nd and 8th place.

With one discard allowed, his final score of 30 points gave him a comfortable 2nd place overall. This also contributed the RYA SouthWest Zone emerging as the overall 2013 Eric Twiname Champions.

Jonny will now compete in the National Series of competitions which form the selection process for next years squads and he will also compete in the Topper National Championships at Weymouth in August.
