James Hutchings presents latest project at Cambridge design show

Published on isbi School News dated Monday 1st of July 2013

Former pupil James Hutchings is currently a student at the Institute for Manufacturing at The University of Cambridge where he presented his latest design project at the Manufacturing Engineering Tripos Design Show on the 5th June.

Proudly wearing his Arthur Evans tie gained at Bishop's Stortford College, James talked visitors through his team's new take on the 'Cambridge Chair' (an ergonomically redesigned chair and computer work station) inviting them to take a seat in the prototype which he built.

The team presented their research, design work, a fully functioning prototype and a business case to tutors, industry experts and even their old teachers. John Trant, Head of Design at Bishop's Stortford College, was delighted to be invited to see the work and was hugely impressed by the quality of ideas and prototypes on show from all the students. He was also amused that James decided to borrow a piece of equipment from the College's design department because it was better than the one Cambridge had!

'We wish James the best of luck for his Tripos results and will continue to follow his progress with interest,' said Mr Trant.
