Outstanding Inspection Report for St Benedict's School

Published on isbi School News dated Friday 11th of October 2013

St Benedict's School has been rated 'outstanding' in the September 2013 Diocese of Westminster Inspection. The Senior School was judged to be 'outstanding' for Classroom Religious Education and The Catholic Life of the School, whilst the Junior School was judged to be 'very good' for the former and 'outstanding' for the latter.
Both reports praised the effectiveness of the school in developing pupils' experience of the richness of the Catholic way of life and believing. In the Senior School the report commended 'the total commitment to the Common Good service and social justice.' The Junior School report stated that 'the school's provision for prayer and worship is outstanding.' Both reports underlined the outstanding links with the local parish and praised the way in which the school engages pupils and parents, creating a true community.
The inspectors were hugely impressed by what they saw in the school and the Diocesan Chief Inspector, Mary Jo Martin, sent her congratulations to Chris Cleugh, Headmaster: 'It is so good, so confirming and so important to have external inspectors recognise and acknowledge the outstanding quality of education you offer. This is indeed good news for St Benedict's.'
Headmaster Chris Cleugh said: 'At St Benedict's the Catholic faith is central to the education of the children. It inspires our mission 'Teaching a way of living', directs our work of teaching and learning and offers us a vision for the goal of human life. I am very pleased that our Religious Education departments have shown that we practise what we preach. Well done to Father Alexander Bevan in the Senior School and to Miss Lucille Southgate in the Junior School, the respective Heads of RE, and to their departmental teams.'
