OSH Sixth Form Boarding House Opens Sept 2016

Published on isbi School News dated Thursday 10th of March 2016

Work has commenced on a dedicated Sixth Form boarding house at Old Swinford Hospital school, Stourbridge. The new house, due to open in September 2016, will form a major part of OSH’s new 11-13 continuum preparing students moving on to the next phase of their lives, whether it be university, apprenticeships or the work place. A large communal area downstairs will allow students to have their own space rather than sharing with younger pupils, all developing greater responsibility and independence for senior students. The project will see the School’s oldest boarding house, Foster, modernised to create single and twin occupancy rooms with en-suite shower rooms for 60 pupils. An internal courtyard will be covered with a lightweight glass structure to create a central common room, with routes to link through the building and connections to a new study area, library and kitchen. The internal refurbishment and conversion will give the house a modern and open look on the inside, whilst retaining its historic exterior facade. OSH is pleased to announce that building contractors Stepnell Ltd to undertake the refurbishment. Stepnell is a £79 million turnover building and civil engineering business headquartered in Rugby. Established in the 1870s, the company is a family-owned business which operates through a network of regional offices across central and southern England. Architects Robothams are leading the design team for the refurbishment programme that will reflect and complement the heritage and history of OSH.
