Upper Third Travel to Madrid

Published on isbi School News dated Friday 15th of April 2016

This Autumn half term saw the first ever Prep School Spanish Trip! Upper Third pupils spent four days in Madrid in October 2015 and were able to really soak up the atmosphere of this vibrant and historic capital. The group flew from Stansted and on arrival in Madrid were soon settled into their hotel in the pedestrian heart of the city. They were excited to be able to discover their surroundings on foot and walking tours with a Madrid city guide gave them many special glimpses into parts of Madrid’s history as well as becoming acquainted with some local customs. Very soon getting around Madrid by bus and metro became second nature! The group ate their evening meals in a different restaurant every night and sampled a wide range of Spanish cuisine including paella, tortilla and the famous jamón. The pupils had a busy itinerary which included some iconic Spanish cultural highlights including a tour of Las Ventas – the most important bullfighting arena in Spain - and a visit to the Reina Sofia gallery to see Picasso’s “Guernica”, which they found both moving and impressive. Other memorable moments came courtesy of a cable-car trip, for a bird’s eye view, and the tour of Santiago Bernabeu stadium, home of Real Madrid football club. For many of the children the opportunity to stand next to the pitch and walk through the players’ tunnel was something that they will never forget!
