Douggie Ashby, a pupil at St Benedict's School, Ealing, saved his best form of the season for the annual IAPS Fencing Championships to win a Gold medal in the Under 11 Foil. The championships were held at Millfield Prep School in Glastonbury during the weekend of 11/12 June.

Douggie had won the Bronze at these championships a year ago but was determined to go all the way this year. In his early elimination rounds he only conceded a total of five hits and, in the semi-final, beat last year's winner. A final victory of 10 3 secured the Gold. Fencing Coach Matthew Gale said, 'It was an excellent final, with exemplary sportsmanship. Douggie was on fire all weekend and he hardly put a foot wrong in the whole competition.'

Joseph McDonald completed a successful weekend for St Benedict's Fencing by winning a well deserved Bronze medal in the Under 9 boys Foil event, losing to the eventual winner in the semi-final.
