LRGS wins two Good Schools Guide awards

Published on isbi School News dated Tuesday 18th of October 2011

Lancaster Royal Grammar School recently won two Good Schools Guide A-level Awards in Design & Technology and Business. This is a prestigious award, contested by over 30,000 schools across the country. The school has won these awards due to its outstanding results over the last three years. The award is given to the school which has the largest popularity of each subject, the best performance compared to other subjects in the school and the results achieved. All of these points are compared to other similar schools, and aim to provide an answer to the question: what is the best school?

The editor of the Good Schools Guide, Ralph Lucas, says that the aim of the award is to 'highlight excellent teaching in individual subjects and if a school has won one of our subject awards, it has outranked all other English schools in its category'.

The Design and Technology award was for the best point score by an English Grammar School for boys taking D&T Product Design at AS level. The Business Studies award was for the best point score at an English School for boys taking Business Studies at A-level. Last year the school switched to the Pre-U award, an alternative to the current A-level system, and considered by some to be more challenging, due to its links to higher education and a different style of learning.
