Japan Exchange Programme Pupils Announced

Published by Christ College on Tuesday 6th of December 2022

Four lower Sixth pupils will be heading off to Japan in January as part of our Japan Exchange programme. There were 19 expressions of interest but following letters of application and interviews, the selected pupils were Joseph Annabelle S , Charlotte W and Finn.

The exchange programme will see the four pupils spending two weeks with their hosts in Japan- boys/girls of a similar age from Meikei School. Our pupils will leave for Japan on Saturday 21st January for a two week stay.

During their time in Japan the pupils will be based at Meikei School which is located in Tsukuba City, about an hour north of Tokyo centre. Pupils will have home-stay with their Japanese hosts throughout their fortnight – quite an experience for them all. They will be well looked after and they will enjoy numerous outings during their time in Japan. The food in particular will be a new and exciting experience for them, as will the customs and ceremony that life in Japan offers. It is very much an immersion, not a tourist visit, and so they will be at school living as a Japanese student for much of their stay.

The reciprocal arrangement with Meikei School will see the Japanese pupils arrive in Brecon on 17th March.

This is a long established programme with Meikei School. The pupils who participated in 2020 had a great store of memories and recollections of their immersion in Japanese culture, and no doubt, this cohort will relish the opportunities and challenges that this exciting experience generates.
