Brentwood School Once Again Among Cricketing Elite

Published by Brentwood School on Monday 12th of December 2022

Howzat! Brentwood School has again been named one of the UK's top 100 cricketing schools by the world’s best-selling cricketing magazine ‘The Cricketer’ - in both the Senior and Prep/Junior categories.

Brentwood’s double inclusion in the prestigious Schools Guide 2023 came at the end of a long and exhaustive selection process which saw a huge number of schools submit entries for a coveted place in the top 100 Senior, the top 50 Prep/Junior and the top 20 all-girls’ schools.

Les Wingrove, a Sports Coach at the Prep School, said, “I am proud to be at the forefront of developing cricket across both genders and inspiring a lifelong love of the sport, and we as a School are continuing the growth across all years.”

The prestigious list includes schools across the country, from Dulwich to Durham, and from Watford to Worksop. Each entry was judged against extensive selection criteria, including a compelling commitment to cricket in the curriculum, facilities, fixture programmes and coaching.

Brentwood has strong links with Essex CCC and the School’s list of illustrious cricket professionals includes former Essex batsman, Brian Hardie, Ashes hero Geraint Jones, and the current incumbent, former Essex batsman Jaik Mickleburgh.

The Cricketer is the sport’s oldest magazine and has retained its position as the world’s most respected and best-selling cricket magazine. Magazine editor, Huw Turbervill, said: “I’ve read some inspirational stories working on this year’s guide.”

Cristian Durant, managing director of Durant Cricket, added: “We have supported The Cricketer’s sterling coverage of school’s cricket, which showcases the fantastic job coaches and staff are doing for grassroots cricket, for many years. Long may it continue. Enjoy the winter, and best of luck for the 2023 season.”
