Benenden Hosts its 15th Model UN Conference

Published by Benenden School on Thursday 15th of December 2022

Benenden recently hosted its 15th Model UN conference, comprised of 350 students and staff.

After welcome refreshments in the Jat Atrium, the Opening Ceremony in the Centenary Hall got the day off to a fantastic start, with an inspiring speech by Secretary General Jamie (Year 13).

For the remainder of the day plenty of great debate was had, with each committee led ably by Benenden chairs. Challenging discussion topics once again varied hugely, including questions on pharmaceutical regulation, the migration of skilled human capital to developed countries, the question of protecting the professional freedom of journalists and the question of regulating foreign objects in outer space.

Security Council debated the question of foreign intervention in conflict areas. In addition, BMUN15 successfully held a Classical Civilisation Committee, which looked at the question of the regulation of the Olympic Games.

Overall BMUN15 once again showed Benenden MUN at its best. The standard of debate was extremely high, and huge thanks are due to everyone who took part, as well as to everyone in the School more widely who contributed to the success of the event.
