We are thrilled to announce that Sherborne Girls has been selected as a FINALIST for The Green Award for Environmental Achievement in the prestigious Independent School of the Year Awards 2023!

Our commitment to sustainability is at the heart of everything we do:

✅ Sustainable School: We're continuously working to reduce our environmental footprint through energy-efficient practices, waste reduction, estate development and electric school vehicles.

🌳 Outdoor Learning: Our beautiful grounds provide the perfect backdrop for hands-on environmental education, fostering a deep appreciation for nature among our pupils.

♻️ Waste Reduction: We're passionate about recycling, composting, and minimising single-use plastics to create a more sustainable school environment. We have embarked on a four-stage plan with Planet Mark, comprising high impact sustainability initiatives that will ensure we achieve Let’s Go Zero. Phase One collates data on waste, fuel fleet cards and utility invoices into one platform for analysis and reporting.

🌿 Green Initiatives: From tree planting projects to wildlife conservation efforts, our pupils actively engage in initiatives that promote a healthier planet.

📚 Sustainability Curriculum: We integrate sustainability into our academic programmes. In 2019, SG became the first school to be included in the national rewilding and education scheme, Operation Future Hope (OFH) and this year we introduced the OFH Nature and Rewilding Course into the Y9 curriculum, equipping our pupils with the knowledge and skills to tackle environmental challenges.

🌎 Global Awareness: Our pupils are encouraged to think globally and act locally, advocating for sustainability in their communities. Alana (Ecology, Conservation and Sustainability Ambassador) works closely with our Eco Council, the Sherborne School Environmental Action Group and The Gryphon School Council translating their inspirational ideas into operational changes.
