Northwood College Celebrates The Queen's Diamond Jubilee

Published on isbi School News dated Wednesday 6th of June 2012

There was Diamond Jubilee fever across Northwood College last week as the girls and staff celebrated with all things red, white and blue. On Thursday (31 May) the School's Catering team did an excellent job of serving lunch dressed as the Royal Family, with special Jubilee-themed dishes.

On Friday 1 June, everyone came to school dressed in red, white and blue. The Junior girls enjoyed a special 'fish and chips and ice cream' lunch on the lawn with The Queen (teacher - Mrs Jones in disguise!), whilst wearing their crowns and waving their flags. They then all joined together to make a fantastic human Union Jack in the playground which involved a lot of organisation from the teachers! They finished with a wonderful rendition of the National Anthem.

Younger girls in the Junior School have also taken part in a special Jubilee Art Competition. The themes were the Diamond Jubilee and the Olympic Games. Many mediums were used including paint, wax crayons, paper and felt tips. Some entries were in 2D and others were in 3D. There was even an Olympic torch! All the winning entries are currently being displayed at the Holy Trinity Church Art Exhibition in Northwood until 10 June and will also be on display at the College's own Art Exhibition on 14 June.
Finally, all of the girls in the School were presented with a commemorative Five Pound coin as a gift from Northwood College.

Mrs Hina Thaker, Head Mistress of the Junior School said: 'It was wonderful to see the girls celebrating The Queen's Diamond Jubilee in various ways, we all had so much fun.'
