Head Boy Charlie Receives Oxford University Offer

Published by Culford School on Monday 12th of February 2024

Congratulations to our Head Boy, Charlie, on being offered a prestigious university place at Oxford in October. Assistant Head (Pupil Learning) Julia Thomson shares, ''Charlie has consistently gone above and beyond in his studies and shown a very high level of curiosity in all areas. He reads prodigiously and has been at the forefront of many new initiatives at Culford. His Oxford offer from Lady Margaret Hall is well deserved, and we are delighted for him.''

On receiving his offer, Charlie commented, ''I am excited to have been given this opportunity to study at Oxford; it has given me some added motivation in the run-up to my A Levels! Although the application process was tough, it was surprisingly fun, so an offer on top of that is an unbelievable privilege. I would like to have a career in academia, but more than anything, I want to go and make the most of the outstanding teaching and experiences I'll have there.''

All Culford's Oxbridge applicants are supported by specialist subject mentors who meet regularly to help them prepare for tests, discussions, and extension activities. Applicants are also given support with their UCAS applications and personal statements. Mock interviews are organised with academics and teachers to provide them with experience talking about unseen material online.

Julia Thomson runs general sessions to support and encourage all applicants and ensure they can visit open days and online seminars run by Oxford and Cambridge Universities. We look forward to welcoming high-achieving students from across the region to our Oxbridge Conference next month.
