Mr Mark Heywood

Few would deny that a good education extends beyond actual examination results. It's about developing the whole child into an independent, resilient and ambitious young adult; equipping them to make their mark on the world. Not only do we truly believe this at The Royal School, but we also do everything within our extensive means to ensure it happens. It's all too easy to talk about 'educating the whole child' but unless there is full commitment and action from across the whole school it soon becomes meaningless rhetoric.
At The Royal this commitment is wholehearted, as demonstrated in the excellent findings of our first Ofsted inspection, and in the fact that our students achieve 100% pass rate at A-level and GCSE with 90% of leavers going to their first choice university. It is with great excitement, therefore, that we have now opened our doors as a Free School to welcome youngsters from Wolverhampton and the wider region, as well as boarders from across Europe and beyond. There are no day fees to pay and every child stands to benefit from the same high standards and expectations for which the Royal is renowned.
As a Free School, we look forward to a steady but manageable growth in pupil numbers over the coming years, alongside an expanded curriculum, additional enrichment activities, and improvements in much of our infrastructure. As always, my staff and I will rise to the challenge of nurturing and developing confident, well disciplined and successful students who are ready and hungry for life.
I hope this gives you a flavour of what The Royal School has to offer and that in showing you the breadth and depth of our curriculum and extra-curricular programmes you will quickly see how we are delivering on all levels - not just academically, but in our mission to prepare young people for a fast and changing world.
Promises of success mean very little unless backed up by action. The Governors and senior leadership at The Royal are very mindful of this and continually work long and hard to preserve the school's exceptional standards. As Principal, I ask pupils and their families to show courtesy, respect, punctuality, enthusiasm for school life outside the classroom, and a positive attitude to learning. At The Royal it is every child's potential that drives us - and why we stay focused on action, not rhetoric.
