Mr T J Belfield MA (Cantab)
Ruthin School is a successful and prosperous co-educational day and boarding School, with circa 200 pupils. The School is situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty, on the edge of a market town, in an area that is a safe and secure environment. The development of self confidence and maturity in students is regarded as being as important as academic achievement.
The School has a 100% record of all students wishing to gain a University place achieving that goal, many studying Science and Business. Class sizes are small, with a team of enthusiastic staff dedicated to ensuring that every student achieves their full potential.
In 2012 the School was ranked 18 in the Times, and is currently ranked 8 out of all co-educational boarding schools (www.best-schools.co.uk).
The School has an open policy on students entering examinations, and broadly has a non-selective intake.
The School has active drama and music departments with choirs, school orchestra and several drama productions per year.
Students from overseas have had a number of notable successes in recent years. Academic results have been above average for the school, with admissions to universities including Cambridge, Oxford, Manchester, Imperial, Bath, Dundee, Nottingham, York, and Liverpool.
Recent results of the IELTS examinations have been particularly good with 100% of sixth form overseas students achieving level 6 or higher. Many students achieve level 7.5 or above. Overseas students have also gained considerably from the extra curricular programme, being members of the team winning the Welsh climbing championships.
