Alleyn Court is a traditional day preparatory school. Founded in 1904 as a boys' school, it moved to its present site in 1993 and became co-educational. Pupils are accepted between the ages of 2.5 and 11, from Pre-Nursery to Year 6.

The school offers impressive facilities for Science, Art and Computing. It is also successful in a broad range of sports (currently ISA U11 National 5-a-side Champions and Essex Cross Country Champions) and all pupils are given excellent coaching in the major sports of football, rugby, cricket, netball and hockey, as well as in basketball, athletics and cross-country. A new Sports Hall was opened in June 1999 and our Cricket Pavilion is newly refurbished and enlarged.

Pupils regularly participate in and enjoy a variety of extra-curricular activities, where opportunities are many and varied. Children are encouraged to aim for high standards in all aspects of school life and are duly celebrated and praised for their efforts.

Pupils' progress is monitored through half-termly assessments and grades reported to parents at progress meetings. The school aims to help all children to become confident and successful in achieving their best.

Our Pre-preparatory department, with premises in both Westcliff and Thorpe Bay, offers children a fantastic Montessori-based approach to the Early Years Foundation Stage. This practical approach develops and enhances natural abilities and encourages social development and self-esteem through child initiated learning. This is a flagship department within the school; classified as outstanding by Ofsted and regarded as a Beacon setting in the locality.

Home-school partnerships are vital to preparing pupils successfully for entrance to major independent secondary schools at 11 and also for entrance tests to local selective schools, where our record of success is consistently high.

Throughout the school children learn to live as members of a community while developing their individual personalities in a happy and structured environment. Former pupils have made an outstanding contribution to local and national life. There are two present MPs, a member of the House of Lords, a recent Lord Mayor of London, a novelist of international renown, a prize-winning playwright, a fellow of All Souls, Internationals in Rugby, Soccer, Hockey and Cricket, an Olympic swimming finalist in Seoul and Barcelona and a member of a world famous pop band.

The school has a most welcoming and friendly atmosphere based on mutual respect and prospective parents are encouraged to come and visit the school to sample this for themselves.
