Private School (Fee Paying) Co-Educational 7 - 18 Years Day

Welcomome to Bancroft’s, a leading co-educational independent day school on the borders of Epping Forest, delivering educational excellence since 1737 to pupils aged 7-18. We reach beyond academic success to provide an individualised education that sets all Bancroftians up for life, with a vast co-curricular provision and a robust pastoral care system. Day in, day out, we are advancing alongside our students in a setting that can’t help but inspire.

Word From The Head

Alex Frazer

A warm welcome to Bancroft's. We are a long-established 7-18 independent school with an excellent reputation for academic success within a holistic and nurturing educational framework.
As an inclusive, cosmopolitan community, we hold the highest aspirations for every young person who joins us.

At home on a magnificent greenfield site in Woodford since 1889, but still connected to inner London by the Central Line and our own bus network, we remain committed to welcoming girls and boys from a wide range of backgrounds to enjoy an excellent education as members of our warm, vibrant and supportive Bancroft’s School community.

We are proudly devoted to scholarship and intellectual inquiry, and we believe that each child will truly flourish by combining academic endeavour with enthusiastic engagement in the wide range of co-curricular opportunities that we provide, while being supported and nurtured by our first-class pastoral care.

Our aim is for all Bancroftians to enjoy and make the most of their time at school, while developing the independence of mind and lasting confidence that will empower them to thrive in their future studies and adult lives.

If you might be interested in finding out more about what a Bancroft’s education could offer your son or daughter, we would be delighted to meet you. Please get in touch – you will be assured of a warm welcome.

This will be the ideal chance to visit Bancroft’s Prep and meet our pupils and staff. Our Head of Prep, Mr Layburn, will be presenting at 10am and again at 11am, offering valuable insights into the admissions process and diverse array of opportunities at Bancroft’s Prep.

During your visit, you’ll also have the freedom to explore the Prep School through self-guided tours and delve into the core areas of the Senior School including the sports facilities and dining hall.
Experience firsthand the welcoming and vibrant atmosphere that makes Bancroft’s a truly special place to learn.

07-06-2025 - 11+ Open Morning

Join us for our 11+ Open Morning, with two sessions to choose from: 9.30am–11.30 am or 11am–1pm. Each session begins with a guided tour led by two of our friendly Lower School pupils (Years 7 to 9). It’s a wonderful chance to explore the school and hear about life at Bancroft’s from those who know it best.

After the tour, you’ll have time to enjoy refreshments and chat informally with our staff.

The morning concludes with a talk from our Head, Mr Alex Frazer, and Head of Transition, Mr Paul Dickinson, who will share the school’s vision, values, and what makes Bancroft’s such a brilliant place for learning and growth. Talks will take place at 10:45am (session one) and 12:15pm (session two).
