Notre Dame was originally founded by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur in 1864 but is now a company with charitable status. The aim of the headmaster and staff is to promote the intellectual, social and physical qualities of each child in a secure and happy atmosphere. As a Catholic school we endeavour to nurture a love of God in all our children. The school has an ethos of service and care and embraces children of all faiths.
We have excellent SATs results and long experience of preparing children for sitting exams for selective independent schools.
The curriculum includes English, Maths, History, Geography, Science, French, Music, Art, Design, Design Technology, Religious Education, Physical Education, swimming and ICT. Optional subjects are speech and drama, ballet, recorder, tennis, football coaching club, cricket, rugby, mini-sports, choir, music ensemble, chess, arts and crafts, guitar, strings, brass, drums and woodwind.
There is an After School Club until 6pm offering a light tea and homework facilities. The school offers a wide range of extra-curricular activities. The school opens at 8am and we offer free supervision until the start of the school day at 8.30am. Early Years Funding is available for all 3 & 4 year old - universal entitlement.
The Headmaster and staff work in collaboration with parents, helping the children towards a growing understanding of the world and of their responsibilities towards other people.
