Yarm School, a co-educational day school, is situated in the attractive and historic town of Yarm on a beautiful stretch of the River Tees. It was established in 1978 to provide high quality education for pupils aged 11 to 18. It has its own Preparatory School for boys and girls aged 7 to 10, a Pre-Prep for boys and girls aged 4 to 6 years and a Nursery for 3 year-olds.

The Senior School is on a beautiful site with the River Tees running through it (no wonder it is a top rowing school!) Based around The Friarage (an impressive eighteenth century mansion), there are outstanding classroom and sport facilities. In the last few years the School embarked upon an exciting redevelopment project of its sites which will conclude in 2015 by which time £25m will have been invested. At its heart is a stunning 750 seat auditorium (which has won national design awards), a studio theatre, dance studio and new riverside classrooms. There are also a flood-lit, all-weather sports facility, a new dining hall, fitness suite and new maths classrooms. Work completed on the riverside performing arts centre for music, dance and drama in 2012 and is currently underway on a state-of-the-art Music School, an impressive boat house and a full-sized flood-lit artificial hockey pitch.

The school's academic reputation is high: Yarm is the top performing school in the area for both GCSE and A-level results. Its sporting reputation is also enviable, with success being achieved right up to national level (and even an Olympic gold!) and the wide range of sports offered caters for most tastes and both genders. An adventurous outdoor education programme, led by a highly qualified Outdoor Education specialists, includes canoeing, skiing, rock-climbing, caving, the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme, the CCF and overseas. The school is highly respected for its strength in music and drama.

Yarm School believes firmly in "education for life" and has more sport and activities within its timetable than is offered in most schools. It is committed to developing in pupil’s inter-personal and leadership skills, manners and an awareness of the needs of others.
