It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the Senior School at Hurst. We pride ourselves on offering a truly outstanding all-round education to all of our pupils: boys and girls day and boarding.

Many schools claim to get the best out of their pupils. At Hurst, I really believe that we do. Because aside from our superb teaching, our beautiful campus, our welcoming community and our wealth of extra-curricular provision, what really sets us apart is that we place a special emphasis on getting the very best out of every child.

The foundation of a Hurst education is an academic core. We are fortunate to have such dedicated and talented teaching staff who set high expectations and push the pupils to get the very best out of themselves. But alongside academic rigour – and not instead of it – Hurst also offers an ambitious range of sporting, cultural, intellectual and social programmes. Not only do our pupils achieve their personal bests in whichever field they choose, these activities also assist their development as rounded, accomplished, ambitious individuals who make a real success of their lives after they leave.

What first struck me about Hurst when I came to visit was that there is a real sense of community; it is almost tangible, and is one of the many reasons why I feel so privileged to work here. Nowhere is that better exemplified than the way we start and end our working week together, gathered as a whole school. Hurst pupils learn the importance of developing certain values: a sense of duty, an awareness of right and wrong, and a respect for others.

The best way to experience this for yourself is, of course, to visit us in person. I do hope that you will come and see us to find out more about what we can offer your child.

The only head we've come across where pupils gave an audible 'aaah' when asked for their views: 'the best head; respectful of us as pupils; makes the effort and knows all our names; you can have a conversation with him.
