Trent College U16 girls hockey team became Midlands Champions for the first time beating Denstone College 10-9 on penalty strokes. The team played some fantastic attacking hockey throughout the day, winning their group to reach the semi-finals. In the semi-final, The girls started with real purpose and took a two goal lead early on. As the game progressed, Repton came back into it and scored with five minutes to go, but the Trent girls held on for a well-deserved win. The final was a repeat of the group game against Denstone. With tiring legs from both teams Trent College could not find a winning goal, although created some good opportunities and wasted several short corners. Denstone took the advantage in the stroke competition but some great saves from Brooke Butler kept Trent in the competition. After this Chaplin, Schmitz, Gale and Hopkisson all dealt with the pressure admirably and eventually Trent won 10-9. This was a fantastic effort from a squad full of quality, which worked tirelessly throughout the day. The girls now take their place in the Schools National Finals taking place at Cannock H.C. on Tues/Wed 26/27th February 2013.Congratulations girls!
