Remembrance Service

Published on isbi School News dated Wednesday 10th of November 2010

Children from Kingswood School in Shirley held a Service of Remembrance on Friday November 5th in memory of those affected in wars and conflict. The Year Six pupils had been studying some of the poetry written during the First World War and had learned a great deal about conditions in the trenches from such writers as Wilfred Owen, John McCrae and Laurence Binyon. As the children presented their Service of Remembrance they were honoured by the presence of Mr Riley and Mr Young, Chairman and the President from the Shirley branch of the Royal British Legion.

'The children have thoroughly enjoyed learning about events from the World Wars and have shown a great deal of empathy with the young men and women who were involved,' commented Mr Robert Luckham, Headmaster of Kingswood School.

The Year Five and Six pupils will also attend the Service of Remembrance on 11th November at 11 o'clock at the War Memorial in the grounds of St James' Church.
