NOT SUCH A COMMON ROOM

Leweston School in Sherborne, Dorset is unveiling its new Sixth Form Centre on 10th May. The design and build was the work of Resolution Interiors, a leading interior design and refurbishment specialist company.
What makes the project unique is the fact that the brief was developed via a brainstorming session with members from the Leweston sixth form. The students were keen to play a part and ensure that the design really fulfilled their expectations and needs for a space that was conducive to private study, social learning, socialising and relaxation. Consequently the resource offers Wi-fi and a place to sit and chat over coffee. It also incorporates a courtyard allowing the students to study and socialise in their own outdoor space.
The brainstorm incorporated a 'cool wall' exercise. The students had to choose from a vast array of images representing many different styles, themes and ideas and put them into categories from uncool to ice cool. From this, Resolution Interiors produced 4 concept mood boards which displayed different angles within the same territory.
Resolution Interiors then translated and developed the concept idea into layout plans and visuals for the space. After student approval they were then consulted on the specific furniture that would be used in each space.
Resolution Interiors coordinated with the school operations and maintenance team to plan all of the construction and installation works to be conducted over the 2 week Easter holidays. The works involved electrics, flooring parquet floor refurbishment and new laminate, all decorations and general works and was delivered on time and on budget.
One challenge remains however; Resolution Interiors tasked the students to come up with some ideas to fill a blank wall at one end of the space. The company provided a sketch book containing some initial ideas and demonstrated how to continue with the overall theme. Watch this space!
