Caterham School U13 Tennis Pair are Surrey Schools Champions

Published on isbi School News dated Friday 5th of July 2013

On 6 June 2013, the Surrey Schools Tennis Festival took place at St George's College Weybridge. Schools from across Surrey took part and Caterham School teams competed in all age groups (U12, U13, U14, U15 and Seniors).

The Caterham School U13 team of Anna Simonova and Danni Foster lost their opening match but this spurred them on as they did not lose another match. They beat Howard of Effingham 6-1 in the semi final and then played particularly well to become champions by beating City of London Freeman's School 6-1 in the final.

The U12 and Senior teams reached the semi finals in their age group:

The U12 pair of Callie Watson and Pippa Lloyd had won 5 of their 6 matches in their section but lost to Putney High School in their semi final.

The Senior Team of Sarah Slater and Fran Rowson beat 3 schools on the way to their semi but they lost to the eventual winners St George's College.

The U14 pair of Chloe Wyner and Katie Herbert came 3rd in their section narrowly missing out on a place in the semi finals despite beating rivals Guildford High School.

The U15 pair of Lizzie Lloyd and Lucie Prego played very well in some tight matches but lost their section.

Head of Girls' Games, Mrs Nat Lomas said: 'It was a beautiful, sunny day and all the girls enjoyed themselves. I was pleased that three of the five teams reached the semi final stages and particularly delighted with the way that the U13 pair were able to show such character by putting aside their initial defeat. The standard of competition across all the age groups was very high and I was impressed with the way the U14 and U15 teams battled on despite losing some of their matches.'
