The rowing season at Oundle School has got off to a good start with the J16 boys winning gold medals in the Year 11 category at the Indoor Launch Regatta at Prince William School in Oundle on 26 September.

The Launch Regatta saw over 70 pupils from Prince William School, The King John School, Oundle and Kings Cliffe Middle Schools, Oundle School and Sir Christopher Hatton School, ranging from 11 18 years of age, compete as teams and in individual races.

The Oundle School Boat Club then raced at St Neots Small Boats Head of the River on 6 October.

In what were unusually perfect conditions, the Third Form (Year 9) J14's coxed quad comprising of Oliver Chapman (13), James Duckitt (13), Brandon Smith (13), Zac Freij (14) and coxed by Rafe Trundell (15) won their event.

Head of Rowing, George Maitre commented, 'This is a great start to the season for Oundle's rowers. After over 20 years in the wilderness, I too competed in a single at the St Neots event. Unsurprisingly I did not win my veteran event, but cheered on by the pupils I was assured that it is the taking part that counts!'
