Published on isbi School News dated Thursday 24th of October 2013

On 2 October, Oundle School's U16 girls' netball team travelled to Wollaston School to compete in the U16 District Netball Rounds, playing a round robin of four matches.

Captain, Hebe Hughes (15) commented, 'Our first match was against Wellingborough who were our toughest team. We started off slowly needing to adjust to playing with each other again but soon settled in to the game and got off to a good start winning 7-2.'

The girls then played Huxlow School who they beat 15-0. The team worked well together during this match and managed to get the ball up the court to the shooters who shot very well scoring from almost every shot. The defenders also played extremely well, intercepting the ball and stopping Huxlow from scoring.

The next match was against Wollaston School who the Oundle team beat 15-3.

Hebe commented, 'For this match our coach challenged us to score at least 15 goals and not let the opposition score at all. Unfortunately we did not manage to stop them scoring but we did manage to score 15 goals. The team worked well together, moving better down the court and not rushing into places.'

The final match for Oundle was against Rushden who the girls beat convincingly with a final score of 23-0. The defence played excellently, intercepting every ball and only allowing the opposing shooters a few unsuccessful shots at goal. The team worked well together with the shooters not missing one shot at goal.'

The player of the tournament was Florence Garnett (16).

Overall the team had a great tournament and a great start to the U16s year ahead.
