Published on isbi School News dated Tuesday 28th of January 2014

The Under 16 Boys' indoor hockey team have matched the success of the Under 16 Girls by winning through to the National Finals. The boys were runners-up in the Regional Finals, remaining unbeaten in all their matches except in the opening game against the eventual winners, Exeter, which they lost 1-3. They then went on to draw 2-2 with Millfield, and win the rest of their matches against Dean Close (4-2), Queen's Taunton (4-0), KES Bath (2-0), and South Dartmoor (3-0).

The Headmaster, Ian Wilmshurst, said: 'It is an amazing achievement getting two teams to the Nationals for any school, let alone a school of our size. Well done to everyone involved.'

The boys' success follows the achievement of the Under 16 girls winning the Regional Indoor Hockey Tournament for their age group after an amazing second half comeback in the final.

To reach the final, and therefore also qualify for the National Indoor Finals, the King's girls beat Sherborne, Cheltenham Ladies College, Clifton College, Millfield, and then Exeter School in a pulsating, nerve wracking final decided by a penalty flick scored by Jemima Owen.
