On Saturday 25 January, the U16 Oundle Netball team travelled to Repton to play in the regional netball finals, having previously won through the district and county rounds winning all their matches. On what started out as a mild afternoon, the girls won their first two matches against Queen Elizabeth (10-3) and Nottingham High School (6-5).
Captain, Flo Garnett (16) commented, 'We then played hosts Repton and couldn't keep up the pace, losing by just one goal, (8-7), in a closely fought match. We ended the first round winning against Uppingham (7-4) taking us through to the semi-finals.'
In the semi-finals, Oundle played their best match of the day against Loughborough winning 10-4.
The final was between Oundle and hosts Repton, to whom Oundle had lost earlier in the day. Unfortunately the weather took a turn for the worse, forcing the teams to play the final match indoors.
Flo concluded, 'After a long day the last match felt like a bit of a struggle and we lost 9-6. However I am very glad to say that we have made it through to Nationals as runners-up.'
The National finals will take place in March.
Oundle's 1st V11 finished 4th in the Regional rounds with the U14s finishing 7th.
Head of Netball, Bev Burnham commented, 'This is a promising group that comprises of Fourth and Fifth formers (Years 10 and 11) who have only been put together recently. Both myself and their coach, Mrs Washington are very excited to see their development.'
