Macmillan Coffee Morning at St Benedict's

The World's Biggest Coffee Morning is Macmillan Cancer Support's biggest charity fundraising event. This year, St Benedict's School raised £1,157.25 for the Charity with pupils from all years entering the massive bake.

Ms Ravenscroft's Tutor group started off the week by presenting to the whole school a poignant assembly to mark the occasion. This spurred pupils on to bake�. and bake they did. The skill involved in baking and decorating these masterpieces was truly impressive; we had everything from a volcano cake to a rainbow cake, and even a cake that was make to look like the Cookie Monster.

The Sixth Form had their own 'Show Stopper Challenge'. The competition was fierce. There were cup cakes, pastries, red devil cakes, lemon drizzle cakes and chocolate upon chocolate�. cakes. All had a beautiful crumb and a lovely even bake and there wasn't a 'soggy bottom' in sight!

The St Benedict's Cake a lovely chocolate and raspberry cake laced with brandy, which was kindly donated by the Hilton Hotel, Park Lane, raised a further £300 at auction.

The Sixth Form winner of best presentation went to two entries. The first to Catrin Beetham for her delectable mix of fruit and chocolate fingers and the second to Miranda Pattison-Hudd for a cake which clearly summed up what cancer care is all about.

In the Senior School the Star Baker award was given to Luke Bissett (Form Three) with highly commended prizes being awarded to Katie Gibson (Lower Fourth), Tahlia Klein (Upper Fourth) and Aine McColgan (Lower Fifth).
