Second Place at the North London Chess Championship

Published on isbi School News dated Monday 14th of March 2011

Last week Norfolk House hosted the 37th North London Chess Championship at St Andrew's Church.

The standard of chess was extremely high, with many players representing their county and some their country. Schools attending included Northbridge House, Hereward House, Lochinver House, Lyonsdown, UCS, Highgate, North London Collegiate and Norfolk House.

The four players in our team were Ethan King (captain), George Pugh, James Debenham and Max Rigby. We played superbly and very narrowly missed out on winning the whole event.

Highgate and UCS came joint first with 8 points and Norfolk House came second with 7 points. All our players were excellent and did themselves and the school credit.

We continue to take chess very seriously at the school with a series of chess clubs and more recently we have included chess on the school timetable.
