For the twelfth year running Queen Margaret's School in York held their Junior Schools' Sport Tournament on Friday 11th March. The tournament sees a number of schools from across the country compete in hockey, netball and cross country. Each year schools travel to the independent boarding school in Escrick, near York for a fun filled day of sporting competition.

This year twenty teams represented seventeen schools from across the UK, coming from as far afield as Cargilfeld in Edinburgh and Glebe House School and Beeston Hall School in Norfolk. Winners of the 2010 Hockey Tournament, Carlgilfield School and the 2010 Netball Tournament, Highfield School, returned to defend their titles and the day saw some fierce sporting action.

After a close hockey final between Cundall Manor School and Beeston Hall, Cundall Manor won the match 2-1 in extra time. In netball The Froebelian School took on defending champions Highfield in the final and won 10-7.

Director of Sport at Queen Margaret's and the brains behind the Junior Schools' Tournament, Anne Davies says:

'What started as a hockey tournament for under elevens has grown into an annual tournament giving girls from across the country a chance to play hockey and netball and compete in cross country against other schools. A really enjoyable day, we now look forward to the thirteenth next year.'
