Bishop's Stortford College's Book Benches

Published on isbi School News dated Friday 13th of March 2015

Bishop's Stortford College Prep School pupils showed their artistic flair this week painting book shaped benches for the Prep School library garden.

Last year, the Prep School Friends purchased two blank benches for the Prep School library garden. Pupils took part in a competition to design their decoration and then the winners of this competition contributed to the final painting. To give a helping hand James Mayhew, author and illustrator of the Katie books and the 'Katie in London' bench, joined the pupils in the art room. He helped to create a special 'Katie in Bishop's Stortford' bench and another inspired by the theme of gardens in children's books.

The College is extremely grateful to the Prep School Friends and James for making this fantastic project possible. The Prep School Librarian Rosie Pike said, 'It was a thrilling day for all involved. Seeing how the benches developed during the course of the day was amazing and I am looking forward to seeing them in situ in our library garden.'
