Truro School in US Scholarships Partnership

Published on isbi School News dated Tuesday 14th of April 2015

Truro School has this week revealed a new partnership with American sports scholarship agency Sporting Elite USA.

The alliance gives Truro School A level students the ability to reach out to over 2,000 colleges in the USA that offer sought-after sports scholarships with the option of continuing to combine academic studies.

The partnership has been formed to provide step-by-step assistance to potential scholars and parents alike, helping them understand the often complicated overseas application process.

US colleges have significantly different entry requirements compared to UK universities with potential scholars having to adhere to guidelines set out by The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).

Beyond the NCAA, many US education providers are also members of either the The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) or the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), each requiring different entry procedures.

Rob Thomas, Director of Sporting Elite USA, said:

'We look forward to working closely with Truro School over the coming years, helping to guide students and parents through the exciting yet complex process of US College recruiting.'

The new partnership also enables Truro School pupils and parents to benefit from one-to-one guidance from US scholarship experts at the school's Overseas Universities Fair in October 2015.
Lucy Jupp, Co-ordinator of Applications to Overseas Universities at Truro School said:

'We have a plethora of sporting talent at the school and it seemed a natural progression to work with a successful agency such as Sporting Elite USA.'

Ahead of tying the knot, Sporting Elite USA's directors, Ben Smith and Rob Thomas, visited Truro School on a number of occasions to deliver informative graduate presentations whilst also working with interested parents and pupils on a more specialist basis.

Mr Thomas said:

'After visiting Truro School several times and speaking with many different students and parents it's clear to see the level of student athletes attending the school are among the best in the UK.'

The link between the two organisations arrives at a time when national tuition fees remain high, making foreign study more appealing.

2014 saw over 10,000 British students opting to experience American college life in one of over 4,500 universities.

Andrew Gordon-Brown, Headmaster at Truro School finished by saying:

'We have seen an increase in the number of our students successfully applying to universities overseas and especially to the US. The gap between the costs of studying in the UK or the US has significantly narrowed in recent years and the choice to stay in the UK is not as clear cut as it once was.'
